what shrub blooms red/pink flowers early in the spring?

The shrub usually appears to have an arching habit, and the flowers bloom before the leaves open up.

Flowering pink almond bushes. If the flower is small and has tons of petals, this is probably it. I love them and they bloom before there are any leaves on the bush.
