By admin | July 18, 2010
My neighbors fence is right next to my patio and that’s where there dog go to the bathroom. The smell is horrible. Is there any plants or flowers that help neutralize the smell so its not so strong?

Herbs are good, but takes awhile to grow. Mint is a good one.

Maybe lavender would do the trick.

Strongly scented flowers may help mask the smell slightly, but no flowers are going to “neutralize” the smell of dog poop.
I had the same problem with some slacker neighbors and the dog they tied out behind their house and ignored. What you need to do is contact your city’s health department. They will come out and have a sniff, and then they’ll tell your neighbors they have so many days to clean it up or they will be fined.
It’s no different than having a neighbor who leaves stinky garbage laying around in their yard. It is a public nuisance and a health hazard.
Good luck.
