What flowers/plants to plant between now and the fall in Wisconsin?

We just moved and there is no type of landscaping in the yard. I would like to plant some flowers or flowering shrubs in the front and back. The front gets quite a bit of sun and the back is pretty shady. I am in Kenosha, which is southeastern Wisconsin, in the MidWest. For some nice early color next spring when planting bulbs be sure to plant tulips daffodils hyacinths etc for some color next spring when planting bulbs for beautiful spring.
