How do I keep flowers fresh for 24 hours?

I am planning to buy flowers this Friday to give to my date on Saturday. I need to pick them up around 2pm on Friday because I will be busy from then until when I see her the next day. Will the flowers go bad in 24 hours? Should I do anything to keep them fresh, like put them in a vase or cut the stems a special way? Any help is appreciated, I will choose the best answer.
They are yellow roses, if that helps.

Flowers in here because it works another link its about the number you put them heres another thing you can do is.
